Project Description


SLE Services was contracted by Ensham Resources to undertake the annual 2019 coal plant shutdown involving the following work:


  • VS01 Screen Changeout

  • VS01 Screen Underpan Chute Overhaul

  • VS01 Feed Distributor Overhaul

  • VS01 Discharge Chute Overhaul

  • Replace / Fit Internal Liner Plates to TLO Bin

  • Assistance to MCC for TLO Operators Cabin Replacement

  • Various conveyor drive replacements

  • Commissioning


All work was completed in full, on time and to budget with no incidents for the entire shutdown. SLE managed several different contractors on various work fronts and excellence in quality & safety was achieved on all fronts.


Project Execution


TLO - all liner plates supplied fitted as per design, drafting and fabrication. 5 x tiers of liner plates were removed and fitted in 12 days with no incidents.


CHP – the VS01 screen was removed and replaced with a new FL Smidth item with significant structural works undertaken on the underpan, feed distributor and discharge chute whilst the old screen was removed.


Time Constraints, Challenges + Innovations


Interactions were present at the TLO bin with a new operator’s cabin installed whilst works were underway on the relining of the internals of the load out bin. All work was performed incident free by maintaining constant communication between all team members and having spotters in place to manage interactions of work between the two work fronts.


Lessons Learned


The need to ensure positive communication between the management team, including client and client sub-contractors, and the site crew by the way of regular and documented co-ordination meetings was essential. This was a success for the shutdown.
